Next Season Sports, a Seattle Seahawks blog, reported last night reporting that the Seahawks have passed on Vincent Jackson. Apparently Vincent Jackson is asking for a five-year $50 million contract with $30 million in guaranteed money. Seattle said that was too much money and they’ve moved on — leaving VJax back to where he was a week ago… on the couch.
Jackson needs to sign with another team by September 4th or he will be forced to sit out the first 10 games of the year. I’m not sure who is going to sign him now.

The San Diego Chargers gave permission to the Seattle Seahawks to begin contract negotiations with Vincent Jackson. Jackson continues to hold out – seeking a new long term contract extension that pays him more than the $50 million contract Brandon Marshall got from Miami. The Chargers held their ground and it looks like they will not be bringing Vincent Jackson back to the team.
I thought all along the two sides would eventually settle on an agreement, but now it looks like the Chargers are looking to move Vincent Jackson to Seahawks – an NFC team that won’t be much competition to the Chargers down the road.
If Jackson gets traded he will still have to sit out the first 3 games of the season for his suspension. The Seahawks have a Week 5 bye, so it works out nicely that if Jackson needs extra time to get back into football shape then he can begin play after the bye.

The Chargers are week into Training Camp and Vincent Jackson has stuck to his word – he is not going to show up to camp until he gets a new long term deal from the Chargers. To Jackson, the risk of injury is not worth it for only a one-year tender. Players want to get locked up long term with lots of up front guaranteed money so if they get hurt one year into their mega contract it doesn’t matter financially, they’re all set.
Still no word yet on if the Chargers will trade Vincent – they’re saying they won’t trade him, but if someone offered a first rounder I don’t see how they could say no.

It’s being reported that several teams are still interested in acquiring Vincent Jackson from the San Diego Chargers. The two teams everyone seems to be talking about are the Seattle Seahawks and the Washington Redskins. The Redskins are having some issues of their own with Albert Haynesworth – I can’t see why they would want to add a player like Jackson to their team.
However, if the Chargers are offered anything significant at this point, I think A.J. Smith could pull the trigger on trading him. The Chargers want to be focused during training camp and build team chemistry that will take them deep into the playoffs. Everyone would love for VJax to be there but if they can’t get a deal done then trading him is the next best thing.

We knew this was coming… Reports are saying that San Diego Chargers receiver Vincent Jackson has been suspended for three games for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. This stems from his second DUI charge in just 2 years. Hopefully it will be a wake up call.
It’s been a rough offseason for VJax. He is still in a contract dispute with the Chargers and now will be suspended for the first three games even if he does get a new contract. If Vincent Jackson gets in trouble again with the league for ANYTHING, he will be looking at a 1 year suspension.

The list of teams that want Vincent Jackson is a long one – despite is off the field issues. Vincent Jackson is a rare talent and there are too many teams lacking a stud WR… the Seattle Seahawks being one of them. The Seahawks reportedly inquired about trading for VJax, but the Chargers said “no thanks.”
If the Chargers are going to play hard ball then this thing could get ugly. I can see both side of the situation, but ultimately want what’s best for Jackson – and that’s a long term contract, whether it’s with San Diego or some one else.

June 15, the deadline for restricted free agents to sign their tenders, has come and gone without Vincent Jackson. As a result of not signing the tender Jackson’s salary has been cut from $3.268 million to $600,000. OOUCH!
VJax does not plan to report to training camp, preseason or any of the regular NFL games until he gets a long term deal or is traded to another team. The Chargers aren’t budging and are planning to move on without him.
“We lost a couple of great players [Tuesday], and it hurts,” Smith told the San Diego Union-Tribune. “We are trying to build a championship team, and losing the services of both Vincent and Marcus just made that more difficult — but not impossible. In due time, Coach [Norv] Turner will name two new starters. We will rally as a team, compete and try to win as many games as we can.”
If Vincent chooses to sit out, he will be able to sign with a new team following Week 10 of the 2010 regular season – I believe. I hope it never comes to this. The Chargers and Philip Rivers need Jackson out there.

I bet you thought I forgot about you – of course not! There’s just not a lot going on right now with Vincent Jackson not showing up for OTAs because he doesn’t have a new deal. Malcom Floyd gave in and rejoined the Chargers, but VJax is still holding out and won’t sign the one-year tender he was offered.
The Chargers are expected to notify Jackson they will face a reduction in their tender if they do not sign by June 15, when teams can reduce an RFA’s salary to 110 percent of the previous season. Jackson would drop from $3.268 to $600,000.
I don’t expect VJax to sign the tender. He’s going to hold out until they offer him a long term deal. The issue with that is teams are reluctant to give out long term deals when they don’t know what’s happening with the CBA.
